Be.YOU.tiful // Make-up Tips + Tricks

We don't know about you but getting ready is one of our most favorite parts of the day! From picking out our outfit head to toe to doing our hair and makeup, being a girl is f u n! Today's blog is about all things beauty! Whether your beauty routine takes 5 minutes or 30 minutes we've got a few tips + tricks that might be able to help you out! Our Grand Forks store manager, Carly, is {amazing!} at make-up and so generously answered some of our questions that we had! She also made over our model, Shea, and creative director assistant, Lexi - enjoy!

Growing up Carly was always intrigued by makeup and was always investigating her mom's makeup drawer. It wasn't until she was older and could wear make up that she would look through magazines and try to recreate looks that she saw in there! Previously working at Sephora she was able to learn make up precision, gain product knowledge and help clients find their perfect make up! She was able to gain confidence in her work over the years by practicing over and over! Don't just wait until that special occasion to recreate that smokey eye look! Make up should be fun and a way to express yourself!

Kittsona: Do we use an eye primer?
Carly: Yes! Always use an eye primer. Eye primers help to smooth out the lid and control oil so your eye shadows don't crease! Plus the eye shadow colors show up so much better when you have a primer on. For those who don't wear eye shadow everyday, still use an eye primer just with eye liner and that will help keep it from smearing!

K: How do we find the right eye shadow colors for our eyes?
C: Some eye shadow colors will make your eyes pop more than others, but never let that discourage you from trying out new things! Rock it with confidence! Colors that make blue eyes pop are more warm browns and golden colors, colors that make brown eyes pop are more in the purple family, to make green eyes pop look for brown colors!

K: Tips for amplifying lashes without falsies?
C: Start with mascara primer! Yes it does make a difference! They help to comb through lashes and separate them while making your lashes more visible! Then your mascara can just glide on. Make sure to get mascara on both sides of your lashes and use the mascara wand vertically too! I suggest waiting and saving the mascara step of the makeup routine until the very end. Another thing that I suggest is applying mascara while holding a small mirror! That way you can see every lash!

K: When should we wear a red lip?
C:Red lipstick is such a classic makeup look and can transform your overall mood! Red lipstick doesn't have to be saved for a special occasion or only for at night. Wearing a red lip during the day is totally fine!

K: Lip tips?
C: When wearing a bold lip color or even to make a gloss stay on longer use a lip liner! Steps to make a lip color stay on longer: make sure lips are exfoliated, then prep with a lip balm, blot, apply a lip primer and start to line the outside of your lips {if you go outside the lines you can clean it up with some concealer at the end!} Filling in your entire lip with lip liner is up to your personal preference! For the lipstick or gloss part using a lip brush helps get closer to the edges! After the color is applied to your lips go around the inside of your mouth with a q-tip so you won't get any on your teeth!
